Our Services
We are, first and foremost, home birth midwives because that is what we love to do. Our usual birth package of services incudes prenatal care, continuous care during labor and birth, postpartum and newborn care our until six to twelve weeks. All of these are individualized to meet the needs of particular clients.
Our Birth care [consolidate]
The birth care package includes all of your prenatal care, having us attend the birth and all of your postpartum care.
We do an initial free consultation where we can sit down and speak as extensively as you wish in order for you to make up your mind whether you wish to go forward with midwifery care and whether you wish to hire us.
We see people every three to four weeks up until about 32 weeks, more often if special needs arise. We can do full physical exams, draw blood for labs, and order ultrasounds if they are needed. Each visit lasts an hour to an hour and a half as we carefully check how you are doing and how you are feeling, as well as how your baby is growing. We have time for questions and education. We can make recommendations about ways to handle lots of things that may come up along the way and we can include children or other family members, and friends that you might want at your birth if you wish to do so.
Closer to the birth, we come more often as final preparations are happening.
We will be with you throughout your active labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum hours. This is a teaching practice, so some of us are students learning the art of providing an array of supportive services and being prepared and practiced for a variety of rare events at birth while also being however subtle you would like us to be around the edges of your calm, wonderful, experience. We strive for plenty of support and no unwanted interference.
Postpartum care of mother and baby for the first six to twelve weeks after birth
In the early postpartum hours, we will take care of you and your baby, and stay with you until various milestones occur and you both are completely calm, stable, well-fed, and ready to sleep. Then, we will be back the following day, and a number of times in the early days and weeks to check on things.
Childbirth classes
We teach our own several session childbirth classes which are included in the package of care for our clients and also open to others for enrollment. WHen we have several families in the same area it is fun to do them live or as a combination of live and Zoom sessions. Sometimes, they are all on Zoom.
Breastfeeding support
We have many years of breastfeeding experience among us, and training in breastfeeding support. We will be happy to assist you with your breastfeeding experience.
Well person care
We can do full well person exams with pap smears and counseling about contraception as part of
postpartum care or at any point after.
Prenatal Care Only
Any of our services can be offerred as stand alone care. If you need just prenatal care, or is you, or your midwife in another area, think you need to be seen just once or twice while you are here, call us. We can do that.
Other Healthcare system advocacy
We are very good at a range of issues that confuse people within the healthcare system.
We accompany people in the event of a transfer so we can support them at the hospital.
We can help people understand paperwork such as medicaid and disability applications, confusing
care denials and other communications from agencies and insurance companies.
Our Pricing Structure
The full price of the birth package is $6000. We offer a sliding scale that we base on 250 percent of the federal poverty guideline, slightly more generous than what the state determines to compute Medicaid eligibility for pregnancy which, in Missouri, certified professional midwives are not allowed to accept.
We can accept some types of insurance out of network, or supply documentation so that clients can apply for reimbursement. We include our childbirth education class as part of the birth package also. It costs around $400 dollars when it stands alone.
All of our services are available individually for people who do not need the entire birth package. In some instances, the sliding scale may apply,
Labs, ultrasounds if they are needed or desired, metabolic screening cards from the state lab for babies, and custom birth kits are examples of things that are charged for separately.
